Author: Dr. Paula Basilio (Chiropractor) B.Chiro.Sci (Macq), M.Chiro (Macq)

Welcome to My Back Relief Clinic! Between work, family and everything in between, women carry a lot, and often it shows up as back pain, neck pain or headaches. Whether you’re juggling a desk job, caring for a newborn or noticing new aches through menopause, our Chiropractors are here to help you understand what’s going on and feel more like yourself again.

Why Women's Health Needs a Tailored Approach

A woman’s body goes through big changes across her life. Hormones, pregnancy, birth, breastfeeding and menopause all affect how the joints, muscles and ligaments work. On top of that, many women spend their days at a desk, carrying children or putting everyone else first.

That’s why we don’t take a one-size-fits-all approach. We look at where you are in life, what your body has been through, and what your days actually look like, then build care around that.

Common concerns we help women with include:

Chiropractic Care for Busy Women

Long hours at a desk, school runs, carrying bags and kids, and very little time for yourself. It all adds up. Many women we see have put up with neck tightness, lower back pain or regular headaches for months or even years, simply because there was never time to deal with it.

Common contributors include:

  • sitting for long periods and forward head posture from screens
  • carrying children, shopping or bags on one hip or shoulder
  • stress and poor sleep, which can increase muscle tension
  • little time for exercise or recovery

We’ll help you understand what’s driving your pain and give you practical changes that fit into a busy life, alongside hands-on care.

Desk Workers

If you spend most of your day at a computer, you may notice stiffness between your shoulder blades, a tight neck or tension headaches by the afternoon. We look at your posture and workstation setup, and give you simple movements to break up the day.

Postpartum Chiropractor for New Mums

After birth, your body is recovering from nine months of change while taking on a whole new physical job. Feeding, lifting, rocking, bending over the cot and carrying a car seat can put a lot of strain on the back, neck, shoulders and wrists, often while you’re running on very little sleep.

New mums often come to us with:

  • upper back and neck pain from feeding positions
  • lower back and pelvic pain
  • wrist and shoulder pain from lifting and carrying
  • headaches and general tension

Care is gentle and adapted to how your body is recovering, whether you had a vaginal birth or a caesarean. We’ll also give you practical tips on feeding positions, lifting and carrying to take pressure off your body. You’re welcome to bring your baby to your appointment.

If we find signs that need another practitioner, such as abdominal separation or pelvic floor concerns, we’ll refer you to a women’s health physiotherapist or your GP.

Chiropractic Care Through Menopause and Midlife

Many women notice new aches and stiffness through perimenopause and menopause. Changing hormone levels can affect muscles, joints and bone density, and it’s common to feel stiffer in the mornings or slower to recover from activity.

Women in midlife often see us for:

  • lower back and hip pain
  • neck and shoulder stiffness
  • joint aches and early arthritis
  • changes in posture

Our focus is on keeping you moving well and staying active, which matters more than ever at this stage of life. Before any treatment, we take a full history, including any bone density concerns, so we can choose techniques that are safe and comfortable for you. Care may include gentle adjustments or mobilisation, soft tissue work and exercises to support strength and balance.

We’re happy to work alongside your GP, especially if you’re managing menopause symptoms or bone health with them.

How We Care for Women at My Back Relief Clinic

We believe in finding the cause before starting treatment. Here’s what to expect:

  1. A thorough assessment. We take a detailed history and examine your spine, posture and the area that’s bothering you. If you need imaging or another practitioner, we’ll let you know.
  2. Your Health Action Plan. We explain what we found in plain language, along with your care options and a realistic timeframe.
  3. Care that fits your life. Treatment may include gentle adjustments or mobilisation, soft tissue work, and exercises and advice you can actually fit into your week.

Female Chiropractors in the Inner West

Some women feel more comfortable seeing a female practitioner, and that’s completely understandable. Our team includes experienced female Chiropractors, led by Dr Paula Basilio, a mum of two who understands first-hand the physical demands women juggle every day.

All our Chiropractors are AHPRA-registered and university trained. HICAPS is available, so if you have private health insurance with extras cover, you may be able to claim on the spot.

Women's Health FAQs

Chiropractors assess and manage musculoskeletal problems, which are the joint, muscle and nerve-related aches many women experience. This includes back pain, neck pain, headaches and hip or pelvic pain. Care is tailored to your stage of life, whether you’re working long hours, recovering after birth or going through menopause. If something needs another practitioner, we’ll refer you.

Yes. Our team includes female Chiropractors, including clinic director Dr Paula Basilio. When you book, just let us know if you’d prefer to see a female practitioner.

Many women come in within the first few weeks to months after birth, once they feel ready. After a caesarean, we usually suggest waiting until you’ve had your six-week check with your GP or obstetrician. Care is gentle and adapted to your recovery.

Yes, you’re welcome to bring your baby. Our friendly team are happy to help care for your child whilst you’re being assessed. We know finding childcare for an appointment isn’t always possible, and we’re happy to work around feeds and settling.

It can contribute. Changing hormone levels during perimenopause and menopause can affect muscles, joints and bone density. Many women notice more stiffness, aches and slower recovery. Staying active and keeping your joints moving well can help, and we can tailor care and exercises to suit you.

Your safety comes first. We take a full history and ask about any bone density results before treatment. If you have osteoporosis or low bone density, we use gentler techniques such as mobilisation and soft tissue work instead of firmer adjustments. We’re also happy to work with your GP.

No, you don’t need a referral. You can book directly with My Back Relief Clinic. If you have private health insurance with extras cover, you may be able to claim on the spot with HICAPS. Check with your health fund to see what your policy covers.

Everyone is different. It depends on what’s causing your pain, how long you’ve had it, and your daily activities. Some women notice improvement within a few weeks, while others need longer. After your initial assessment, we’ll give you a realistic plan and timeframe in your Health Action Plan.
